Riding in Place

Continuing on yesterday’s post (sorry), I wanted to use a little more of my precious blog space to talk about my new riding routine. Since I’ve been stuck indoors due to bad weather and lack of daylight, I am trying to make the best of it. I rode the X-Bike again yesterday, and actually had a great workout. I’ve been shifting into a higher gear and standing up every so often during my rides, and that’s actually been working out (no pun intended) pretty well. As bad as it sounds, riding indoors has actually improved my fitness. Still though, I am really itching to get back out on the trail. This weekend’s weather forecast is not promising though. We might even hav to cancel our next scheduled kid’s ride. Bummer.

So, in the spirit of my newfound fitness routine, I was looking for information about how to actually fully utilize the X-Bike. I used The Google, and found some interesting results on You Tube. Although I tend to just pedal the damn thing, the guy in this video seems to think he’s on a trail or something. It has an interesting comparison to “real” mountain biking. Check it out.

Wow, that’s something, huh? I think the guy riding that thing is way too serious. I would get laughed right out of the gym if I did that shit. Well, maybe I should try it to see what happens.

Here’s what I think might happen:

Curious Onlookers: Ha ha!

Me: What the hell are you laughing at?

Generic bystander: That’s some funny stuff you’re doing on that there bike.

Me: I’m simulating a real mountain bike ride.

Bystander: But why? Are you afraid of the outdoors?

Me: I guess you haven’t heard of me. I am a nearly world-famous, semi-sponsored, racing phenom here in the Charlotte area. I even have a blog. Lots of people read it too.

Bystander: Oh, sorry. Can you show me how to do that?

Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Well, that would never happen. I would most likely get a bunch of weird looks, and people would get a good laugh later on. I may try it anyway to see what happens. In the mean time, here is another propaganda video to watch. The title is “Why Choose X-Biking”, which I think is odd. I chose it because it was there, and the weather chose to be shitty and force me to ride inside. Nuff said.
