I May Need An Ambulance
Or a Beerbulance, whatever.
The 2012 Winter Short Track Series starts this Sunday, and of course I’m not ready. While it’s true that I’ve been riding more this offseason than I normally do, I’m still not ready for “racing.” I guess it’s a good thing I’m not planning to race.
Yes, I will be there. And yes, I will have a number on my bike. Would I call it “racing”? Not really. This series is more like a training ride for me. I can ramp up the heart rate and go all out with others around more than I would on my own. I don’t expect to have totally shitty results out there, but I sure as hell don’t expect to get on the podium.
If I feel okay after I race at 11:30 in the Clydesdale class, then I’ll strap a number to my single speed bike and go out again at 1:30. Two rides at “race” speed in one day should do me some good, or it could kill me. Either way I will have accomplished something. I hope to do this during the whole five race series, but the first time might make me think otherwise. While I may just hold my own in my own class, I have a feeling that the super fast single speed crowd will destroy me. I’m betting that I will get lapped by the leaders at least twice. Care to wager?
I’m really looking forward to seeing all of my racing pals again though, and believe it or not I’m looking forward to a nice long season. The offseason didn’t last as long as I thought it would, but I’m good with that.
Oh yeah, you still have time to take advantage of the special deal going on at DeFeet. Remember, you save 40% on the UnD-Lite base layer (long-sleeved.) Enter the promo code KEEPDRY and order up some warm, dry goodness.
Time is running out though. You have been warned.
