For The Kids
We love the little people here at B-43. Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day was held this weekend, and after showing up early Saturday Morning to Colonel Francis Beatty Park I was quickly reminded of how much fun it is to ride with the little ones.
Our club, the Tarheel Trailblazers), teamed up with Trips for Kids and REI to get kids out on the trail. We had a huge turnout.
With well over fifty kids, we broke up into groups based on skill level. I ended up leading a beginner group, with Eastwood, TomTom, and Lunchbox helping out.
It was so cool to see so many people out on the trail at once.
Along the way we decided to split the group in half, which made things a little easier to manage. We stopped often, helped the kids tackle the rocks and roots, and made sure everyone was having a great time. `
They were, especially when we got to the “Gravity Cavity.” The kids got to play for a little bit.
Yeah, he's still a kid. Just a really big one.
The little ones had a blast too.
Some of them even screamed out loud because they were having so much fun.
Well, maybe she was screaming because Eastwood was lurking in the background.
Srsly, he was great with the kids.
We rode a short (for us, not for the kids) lap and headed back to the parking lot, where volunteers from REI made lunch for us. The kids were having a great time, and they got a little exercise in the process. Even though the ride wasn't “epic”, it was more fun than cranking out hot laps by myself somewhere. In fact, it was more fun than most of the riding I do. Those kids will be grown-ups one day soon, and hopefully they will still have fun riding bikes or whatever they end up doing in life. Maybe they will remember this day for a long time.
I know I will.
I can't wait until next year.
