Kids On Bikes

Saturday was Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.  This ride is one of my favorites, because it’s not all about me.  We all met down near Matthews, NC at Francis Beatty Park and setup our little pit area.

Even though I brought my bike, I didn’t plan to ride with the kids.  I opted instead to provide mechanical support and just hang out to represent the Tarheel Trailblazers.  Since I wasn’t going anywhere, I brought my little buddy Carl along to hang out.

We had a great turnout, with something like 65 kids.  They all got together for some quick announcements…

Then they divided up into groups and hit the trail.  Lunchbox (who’s no longer a kid anymore) took a group out for a spin.

They were gone for a while, and from what I hear they had a blast.  A few of the groups came back quicker than expected so they opted to go back out for a little longer.  I took that opportunity to take Carl into the woods to spectate.

While we waited for the kids to come by, Carl sat back and watched Good Guy Greg hit one of the features.

Eventually the kids started coming through.

Carl liked to watch.

Once everyone came back it was time to eat.  Lunch was provided by Charlotte SouthPark Rotary (huge thanks to them), so the kids dropped their bikes and got their grub on.

What a great event.  It’s great every year, but they always seem to get better.  Big thanks to the Dirt Divas, Trips for Kids, The SouthPark Rotary, and to all the kids that came out.  I can’t wait for next year.

I’m sure Lunchbox can’t wait either, since he walked away with a bunch of leftover food.

All your leftover foods are belong to Lunchbox.

Did you participate in Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day?  If you didn’t, you better join in on the fun next year.
